UNCP Football: Can the Braves push to 3-0?

All the sudden, a winning season in Year Two of UNCP football doesn't seem so unobtainable.

A matchup of undefeated teams is set for this Saturday in Wingate, N.C., as the 2-0 Braves take on the 2-0 Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. at Irwin Belk Stadium.

The Braves come into this week hot, fresh off of a 21-9 upset victory over Davidson in Pembroke Saturday night. The Black and Gold defense forced three interceptions and scored 21 unanswered points to beat the Wildcats and spoil their season opener.

Will UNCP's defense, a squad that has allowed just nine points in two games, be confident enough to stop a powerful Wingate offense?

Prediction: As much as I want to take my Braves in this one, look for Wingate to get on the scoreboard early in its 2008 home opener. The Black and Gold will suffer their first loss of the season after a huge win last week against Davidson. Wingate's offense proves too much for the UNCP secondary as the Bulldogs win 31 - 21.

Your thoughts on Saturday's contest at Wingate?

Geez! Even after being so wrong in your prediction last week, you still have the strength to predict against your own Braves again this week?

I feel that the braves would win this week coming up if they utilize their offense. what happened to number 18? he is tall and big. and what happened to number 84, he is really fast, can catch and is good from what i seen in practice and before. then you have number 17 that can catch real good, and 81 is tall and can catch. they have really good running backs so right now they are lacking threats at receivers. i never played football before but i sure love it and watch and know good players when i see one. if the right personel is played, braves will win 31-20 but if not bulldogs win 21-3.

No. 18 is Darrin Watkins, tall receiver with good hands, so-so speed He had a big play in Saturday's game when a defender was called for a Pass Interference against him in the endzone.

No. 84 is Jamar Dials, short, quick wideout with good speed. Unfortunately, after returning from injury, he's been buried in the depth chart.

No. 17 is Charles Nieves, a brightest receiver on offense this season behind Jamal Williams.
